Amid the growing need for big data management and the protection of information intelligence against the threat of cyberattacks,  this fast-emerging industry has been facing a significant skills shortage. This specialist degree will enhance your critical knowledge to research, design, implement and deploy robust cyber security solutions. You will also develop technical and problem-solving skills to solve the broad variety of cyber security issues that modern organisations face as well as the ability to manage security risks within the modern workplace.

 

With the theoretical understanding of the field and tools and techniques to craft creative solutions you learned throughout the programme; you can then apply your practical skills to one of the biggest challenges in modern organisations of all sizes. This includes creating a professional development plan and producing an e-portfolio to demonstrate your understanding of the domain of cyber security and experience across the topics you study.

Learning and Assessments

Teaching methods

You will take part in an innovative online learning environment, which includes a range of interesting and thought-provoking exercises. Core information is developed by subject-leading experts in the field and closely aligned with both industry and academic best practice, underpinned by rigorous theoretical and practical topics, examples and cases. Throughout your study journey, you will learn through interactive individual activities, case studies, group tasks and discussion boards; these will be primarily asynchronous, but opportunities for synchronous interaction will be provided.

 

Assessment method

Assessment is by coursework only – no examinations required. Instead, a diverse range of assessments are used throughout the programme designed to mirror circumstances that students may experience within a professional context. This ensures you will be provided with a range of opportunities to show evidence of your learning.

Virtual learning environment (VLE)

The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is at the centre of your online study experience. It is the platform where you can find your study timetable, view interactive lecturecasts, exchange knowledge with others in discussion forums, access resources and e-library, and submit your assignments. You can learn on demand, study at any time, on any device, from anywhere with an internet connection. There is a study skills hub to help you improve and maintain your academic skills, from planning your assignments, understanding academic integrity, and referencing, to using the online library and improving your time management.

Entry Requirement

  • A degree in computer science or a closely related subject, equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree, coupled with two years’ relevant IT professional experience; or
  • Professional work experience in IT or a related field and/or other prior qualifications, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language and are required to provide evidence of this. Successful applicants from outside the UK must have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 overall or equivalent

If you don’t have an IELTS or equivalent certificate, you can take a designated free online English test to assess your proficiency.
